Child and Adolescent Health

Going to the GP can be a daunting experience for young children. Our warm and friendly staff are dedicated to the health and happiness of our patients. We encourage our adolescent patients to make appointments and ensure they are aware of the importance we place on confidentiality. We bulk bill all children under the age of 15 years.

Addiction Medicine

First Light Healthcare provides expert care and support for patients battling drug and alcohol addictions. In appropriate circumstances, we offer patients a supervised detox program at Byron Bay Central Hospital.

GP Obstetrics

Dr Coren provides GP Obstetric support to the Byron Community Birthing Service at Byron Central Hospital. In addition, First Light Healthcare can provide GP Shared-Care with Lismore Base Hospital and Tweed Heads Hospital.

Women’s Health

Women’s Health including preconception counselling, contraception counselling, intrauterine device (IUD) insertion and removal, Implanon insertion and removal.

Billing

First Light Healthcare is a mixed billing practice, with some doctors Bulk Billing children under 15 years of age, Health Care Card and Pension Card holders (only applicable for eligible appointment types). 

All new patients to the clinic are charged at the Full Private Fee on the day regardless of pension or Healthcare card status, thereafter Bulk billing will apply for eligible local patients.

PLEASE NOTE Visitors to First Light Healthcare Byron Bay and Ballina, will still pay the Full Private fee regardless of HCC as per our policy. 

SATURDAY FEES – First Light Healthcare does not Bulk Bill Pensioners, Children or HCC on a Saturday. 

Consultation fees are payable at the time of consultation, and can be made by either Cash, Visa / Mastercard or EFTPOS. For your convenience, we will process the credit of your Medicare rebate to your nominated bank account at the time of payment. The rebate will clear to most commercial bank accounts by close of business on the day of consultation.

Practice Policies

Privacy and Confidentiality: Your Medical File is handled with the utmost respect for your privacy at all times. Strict storage policies are observed within our Practice and your records are only accessed by staff granted a security password. You can access a copy of our Privacy Policy here.  A copy of such can be also be viewed in our waiting room at any time during opening hours. Results: First Light Healthcare requires an appointment time with your Doctor for all discussions regarding results. It is our policy that results are not given out over the phone. If a result is returned abnormal, or a review is necessary once these are received, you will be recalled for a follow up appointment by your Doctor. Recalls and Reminders: Our Practice is committed to Preventative Healthcare. Please advise you GP if you do not wish to have recalls appropriate to your circumstances (eg. Age, medical history) added to your file. We send reminders via SMS, phone or by letter. Please be sure to update any contact detail changes with reception staff. Contacting Your Doctor By Phone: We try not to interrupt your GP whilst in consultation. If our reception or Nursing staff cannot assist you with your query, depending on the circumstances they will either arrange an appointment time for you, or pass on your message. Your GP will then contact you at the end of their consulting session. Urgent matters will always be dealt with immediately following our Triage policy. Scripts and Referral Requests: Patients must make an appointment with their regular doctor (where possible) for script and referral renewal requests. Electronic Communication: In line with Privacy and confidentiality concerns, First Light Healthcare chooses not to send results or sensitive information using email. Although we have a high standard of internet security within our Practice, email has risks that other forms of communication do not. With your informed consent only will we consider this as an option. Interpreter Services: Please notify reception staff if an interpreter is required for an appointment. Feedback: We welcome your feedback as it helps us to improve the services we can offer to you. There is a suggestion box in our waiting room where you can anonymously leave your suggestion.
